Last Friday at his home, west of Yountsville, Charles Swearingen, son of Frank M. Swearingen, was suddenly taken with a sinking spell and died quite unexpectedly. He was 35 years old and had been ill for about two years with consumption, but his death was not expected so soon. When his parents came to the city that morning he was apparently no worse and they left home with no misgivings of the sad news which later called them home. -s

Again has death entered into our midst and taken from our companionship one of our loved ones.
Charles, son of Francis and Henrietta Swearingen, was born Aug. 11, 1867, and died Oct. 21, 1898, aged 31 years, 2 months and 10 days. He was the tenth of a family of fourteen children. For almost six years he had been a sufferer from lung troubles, and for the past few months had been rapidly on the decline. The immediate cause of his death was due to a hemorrhage of the lungs, which came suddenly and without warning while he was out in the yard. Death followed in a few moments.

Charles was an industrious, noble hearted young man and had many friends to sympathize with him in his afflictions. His poor frame will never more be racked with the agonies of pain. Suffering is at an end, but ‘twill be only a short time until we will cross the dark river and join our loved one among the host of the saved on the other shore.
Charles leaves a father, six brothers, and six sisters to mourn his loss. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. McCay at the family residence, three and one half miles west of Yountsville. Interment was at the Waynetown Cemetery. -s

Charles Swearingen was born Aug. 11, 1867, and died Oct. 21, 1898, at the age of 31 years. He was the tenth child of Francis and Henrietta Swearingen. The funeral was preached Sunday by Rev. McCay, and the remains were laid to rest in the Masonic Cemetery at Waynetown. Charles was a young man loved by all who knew him. Although he suffered for six long years he bore it all with cheerful patience, and when the end came he looked like one who was wrapt in a happy and peaceful sleep. The family has the sympathy of the entire community in this their sad bereavement. -s
